Classroom Resources
_______________
Moodle (Learning/Course Management System)
The university uses the Moodle course management system. Moodle allows instructors to use an electronic framework for posting assignments, on-line readings, hosting class discussions, providing on-line assessments, and more. You can set up the Moodle site to accept electronic submission of assignments and to post grades. You access Moodle at https://moodle.sbu.edu/ using your SBU login credentials. A Moodle site is set up for each course by Technology Services.
Contact Karla Bright (kbright@sbu.edu; 716-375- 7897) in Technology Services for help with Moodle. Karla also provides an online site of Moodle Resources--Help and How To.You can also find extensive help online by Googling “Moodle Help.” One good site to get started with is the Managing a Moodle course page. You may also wish to consult the Moodle.org help page.
Students are familiar with Moodle and generally expect – at a minimum – that instructors will use it to post and accept assignments and to post grades.Classroom Assignments
Classrooms are assigned by the Records Office and are listed in the course schedule that can be found on my.sbu.edu. If you need to change your assigned room because it is too large/too small or you would like your class to meet in a room with a different setup than the assigned room, you can submit a request to CHANGE the assigned room for a class at http://my.sbu.edu/custom/change-room-request-form.
To RESERVE a room for meeting or any other one-time or recurring use, use 25 Live Scheduling software. The link is on the Home page of my.sbu.edu in the General Links & Forms box.Academic Calendar
It is essential that you know the details of the academic calendar. The academic calendar provides important information about due dates, class starting and ending dates, final exam times and other essential information. It is a document that you should access often. The current and future calendars are available online.
Classroom Technology
Most classroom are equipped with a computer and projection capability. Some have document cameras. Basic directions for using the equipment can be found in many classrooms.
If you need assistance with classroom technology, contact the IT Help Desk at (716) 375-7600 or helpdesk@sbu.edu
For assistance with Moodle or other instructional technology, contact Karla Bright at
(716) 375-7897 or kbright@sbu.edu.
General directions for using classroom technology is found on the podium of each classroom. Prior to beginning a new in-person class, you may want to visit your classroom to become familiar with the technology in the room. The IT Help Desk staff will be glad to answer any questions you may have.Online Grading
All grades, undergraduate and graduate are entered electronically on the Academics tab of my.sbu.edu. Undergraduate students are graded at midterm and end of the semester. Graduate students receive grades only at end of semester. Due dates for grades are posted on the academic calendar. It is essential that you submit grades by the posted deadline.
Grades for individual course assignments should be posted on the course Moodle site so that students may view their grades during the course.
Talk to your Program Chair/Director if you have questions about grading distribution and policies, or if a student has a problem with a grade.Forms
Occasionally you will need to complete a form related to student grades, attendance, etc.
Many academic forms are available for electronic completion (for example, a grade change). You can access those forms from the Academics tab of my.sbu.edu or by clicking here.
A number of forms must still be completed on paper copy. For example, if a student wants to withdraw from your course, a course withdrawal form must be printed, completed and signed. Those can be accessed on the Academics tab of my.sbu.edu or by clicking here.
